Edinburgh Primary Outdoor Classroom

Outdoor Classroom Area

We worked closely with the client to develop a multi-use space for both children and staff to enjoy in all weather. We developed a design to cater for all age groups, with equal access and opportunity for wheelchair users and other SEN groups. The terraced amphitheatre provides seating for up to 30 children. To make the design a reality, we worked directly with the school, helping them win a successful fundraising bid – this involved writing a sustainability statement, outlining the environmental [protection] objectives of the project. We used a wide range of natural and recycled materials, chosen to last – such as naturally-shaped hardwood Robinia Poles, Cedar wood roof shingles and 100% recycled/recyclable plaswood. All poles set with ancient rammed earth method, so no hazardous and environmentally pollutant concrete was used. Follow-up plant advice, care and maintenance included.
