Reception Play Space
The site at Trinity Buoy Wharf is rich with history, contemporary architecture, kinetic art & striking maritime features - including a steam ship & the Faraday Lighthouse. The site for this project is very exposed to harsh weather coming off the River Thames, so we were tasked with creating a vibrant covered area, as an obvious extension of the shipping container classroom. We used opaque polycarbonate roofing along with nautically-themed porthole windows - carefully designed to flood the interior seating areas with ever-changing natural light. We created large wall-mounted blackboards for children to use for drawing , class lessons & general mark-making. We installed a bespoke magnetic marble run - which also serves as a multi-use display wall to be used as a teaching aid during formal lessons. A decking platform with a swivel-mounted telescope, offers children a fun & interactive means to observe wildlife across the tidal Bow Creek below. Other elements include sensory planting, fence & gates plus artificial turf with soft underlay padding
